Today at the China region’s largest fine wine trade fair, the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair, premium Australian organic wine producer exhibited its complete range as the sole organic winery on the New South Wales government’s pavilion.

Other recent substantiations of the quality and popularity of the winery include the silver medal for the Ascella Pure Wine 2009 Organic Semillon at the 2009 Hunter Valley Wine Show (won in open competition with all
entered conventional and organic wines), and the 2010 Organic Semillon was honoured as first place winner in this year’s Australian and New Zealand Organic Wine Show.

Mayfield Vineyard exhibits at Hong Kong International Wine Fair 2010

Today at the China region’s largest fine wine trade fair, the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair, premium Orange Region (Australia) winery Mayfield Vineyard presented a brace of new wines to the China-region trade.

中国地区最大的葡萄酒贸易展会香港国际美酒展于今日举行。澳大利亚奥兰治产区著名的Mayfield酒庄在展会中展出了一系列新品葡萄酒。

“Several of our new release wines have been of particular interest to Hong Kong and China-region buyers”, said Mayfield Vineyard proprietor Richard Thomas.  “Our two new 2009 Rieslings – the floral, free-run made Mayfield Vineyard Riesling and the more citrus Icely Rd Riesling have both attracted strong positive responses.”

Mr. Thomas said of the classic grape variety, “Of all grape varieties, Riesling is the purest expression of any vineyard. It tends to go from gentle whole-bunch pressing through a slow, cool ferment to bottling with very little influence by the winemaker, and with tremendous regional variation. Our Rieslings are grown very high – at 920m above sea level – and are therefore a particularly cool climate expression with lingering fruit & mineral flavours.  The Mayfield Riesling vineyard has ancient, volcanic, pebbly soil over slate, and our vines are carefully hand-picked at low yields.  These new 2009 Rieslings are subtle and delicate wines, and are perfect, complimentary matches for delicate Cantonese and spicy Sichuan-style dishes.”

Mayfield Vineyard is also showing its highly-regarded 2008 Cabernet-Sauvignon, which was recently selected by London’s most prestigious grand hotel, The Savoy, to join the completely refurbished hotel’s limited and exclusive new wine list.  Mr. Thomas said, “It has been a challenge to have Australian wines admitted to the lists of fine dining establishments in London where French wines are normally the order of the day. We see this as a ‘coming of age’ for distinctive Australian wines of regional character which have evolved beyond the simple perception
of ‘sunshine in a glass’ which used to reign in the past”.

Today at the China region’s largest fine wine trade fair, the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair, Australian family-owned winery Belgravia Wines introduced a new range of wines which have been created to match exceptionally well to popular Chinese cuisines.

Belgravia Wines’ new premium range of 2010 Aromatic White Wines includes the ‘10 Sauvignon Blanc, the ‘10 Riesling, the ‘10 Pinot Gris and the ‘10 Gewürztraminer.  These four members of the 2010 Aromatic Whites family are estate grown and feature a cool-climate fruit-driven style with natural acids which is fast becoming a defining characteristic of the Orange winegrowing region of New South Wales, and of Belgravia’s easy-to-enjoy wines.

New South Wales Exhibits at the Hong Kong International Wine Fair 2010

HONG KONG, Nov. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Australia’s premier winegrowing and winemaking state, New South Wales, returned today for its second consecutive exhibition at Asia’s largest fine wine trade fair, the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair.

NSW was the most awarded state from the largest exhibiting country, Australia, at the 2009 Fair, winning 13 medals in the Fair’s International Wine and Spirit Competition (inclusive of the first place Trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon).  Eric Roozendaal, NSW Government Treasurer and Minister for State and Regional Development said, “New South Wales’ outstanding performance in the 2009 Hong Kong International Wine Competition demonstrated not only the quality but the suitability of NSW wine in the mainland China-Hong Kong market. The government wishes this year’s entrants good luck in the competition, and in introducing even more Asian wine lovers to our fantastic NSW wines.”

Representing NSW at this year’s Fair are ten of the State’s most awarded and unique wineries: Ascella Pure Wines (Hunter Valley), Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard (Hunter Valley), Belgravia Wines (Orange Region), Brokenwood Wines (Hunter Valley), Calais Estate Wines (Hunter Valley), Chalkers Crossing (Hilltops Region), Mayfield Vineyard (Orange Region), Mudgee Wines (Mudgee Region), Printhie (Orange Region), and Ross Hill Wines (Orange Region).  Amongst this all-star delegation are James Halliday 5-Star rated wineries, national trophy winners and iconic Australian producer-exporters.

The NSW Government has provided energetic export development support to the state’s wineries through Industry & Investment NSW’s “Wine to China” strategy.  The strategy, initiated in 2009 and building on significant foundations already established in Asia, includes two annual wine-industry trade missions.  When combined with NSW’s permanent trade development offices in Shanghai and Guangzhou, the “Wine to China” strategy reinforces a continued presence in the marketplace for excellent NSW wine producers.

At this year’s Hong Kong wine fair, a large number of pre-qualified buyers will be meeting NSW wineries at the Fair’s Australian Pavilion.  These trade buyers, from Beijing, Xian, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Wuhan, Kunming, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Taiwan, Macau, Seoul and beyond, will be given unparalleled opportunities to meet, in most cases, the principals and winemakers of the exhibiting wineries.
